Project information
Weekly Social Club
To combat isolation & loneliness, each week 50 older people attend our weekly social club. For those that live in isolated areas we arrange transport & for some it's the only time they are able to get out and meet people. It is an afternoon of fun, warmth, entertainment, friendship & cake.
This will be an ongoing service

Need
Need
Our rural community is affected by cuts in local transport links and reduced access to services. The service will tackle social isolation and loneliness in older people within our Parish.
Solution
By providing a volunteer-led social club, we are able to encourage our older community to engage in social, leisure and community activities. By taking a holistic approach, our members feel valued and part of their community, whilst living at home independently for as long as possible. The weekly social club gives an activity to look forward to each week, and for many, is the only time they may leave the house and interact with others.

Aims
Aim 1
To create a community that cares - we have proved that a community-led solution works.
Activities
» We provide community led activities such as healthy living, exercise, regular speakers, outings and the RSM Centre is open daily.
What success will look like
By recruiting more volunteers to help deliver our programme and continue to meet the needs of our members

In conjunction with our Befriending service and volunteer driving scheme to bring more people in the community, who maybe confined to their homes, out to social activities.
Risk
Insufficient volunteers or insufficient entertainers/talkers. We cannot foresee this happening.

Why Us?
Why Us?
Over the last ten years, we have proved it is possible to find community-led solutions to supporting the needs of a growing elderly population.
