Sensory Boxes and Children's Entertainer Sessions
Provide sensory boxes to Community Nurses across the UK to support the work they do with poorly children in their own homes. To bring smiles through distraction whilst having tests & treatments. Items also useful tools for siblings. Plus pay for more entertainment sessions in children's wards.
January 2017 - December 2026
Charity information: Clowns In The Sky
For Sensory Boxes:
The fear that some children have of blood tests and needles. Endless nurse visits sometimes daily with tests and treatments that can be painful.
Siblings in the house needing attention.
For Children's Entertainer Visits:
Hospital stays, some for weeks at a time with every day seeming the same.
For Sensory Boxes: Making tests & treatments more manageable for poorly children, even fun!
With the sensory box the items can be accessible to the patients siblings & act as distraction too.
For Children's Entertainer Visits: A month visit to all of some of the hospitals we support (we have funded some sites but not all). A 2 hour visit can make such a difference to a child in hospital, I have witnessed an entertainer at work & the excitement it brings. Smiles in hospital seems healthy to us.
Help to put smiles on the faces of poorly children in hospital and being treated at home.
Activities» Winter Ball on 3rd December 2016 to raise funds and awareness. Other activities in 2017 but require supporters to register for these.
With feedback from the Children, and or Parents/Carers, Community Nurses, Play Specialists and other Nursing Staff. Use of photos and video footage for displays, flyers etc.
Success will be measured in smiles.....I know this sounds soft but it can be evidenced and we have in a dvd at a hospital where a Children's Entertainer visited in December 2016. Also with the Sensory Boxes we have got feedback from the ones we have piloted in Nottingham (North) and Rayleigh, Essex (South).
Lack of funds, hence we have only piloted as we send top up parcels to each of our Community Nurses (this initiative is on top of the trolleys we provide to wards across the UK, and the small grants we give to families with a child with a brain tumour). Hence we haven't made more readily available until we know we can get a commitment from others.

Amount Heading Description £900 Sensory Boxes 6 Sensory Boxes, 3 for the North and 3 for the South @£150 each for the year £1,200 Children's Entertainer Session A 2 hour monthly visit to one ward in the North, and the same for one ward in the South for a year
Charity Head Office - Eltham, South East London
Development Officer based in Romford, Essex
Covers the whole of the UK, currently work with hospitals from Newcastle in the North to Isle of Wight in the South.
Lots of Children, potentially 30 per day x 2 sites x 12 months for Entertainer Sessions = 720 Children.
Home visits for the boxes daily, estimate 6 children a day x 5 days (could be 7) 30 children a week per box x 6 boxes = 180 x 52 weeks = 9360.
So truly lots as could potentially have an impact on over 10,000 children in a year.
Parents, and siblings to benefit too, and Community Nurses, Play Specialists and other Nursing Staff.
We are already successful in what we do with our Arts & Crafts and Sensory Trolleys, we have piloted the Sensory Boxes and know there is a need hence wanting to get a few more out.
We already pay for Children's Entertainer sessions in some of the hospitals we work with and it works, so we want to offer more.
