  • Need

Carers struggle with isolation and lack of contact with others due to their caring role.
Often they are unable to access mainstream sports/fitness activities due to the confines of their caring role and finances.
This also leads to physical ill health and poor mental health.
This is particular true of older carers aged 60 and over who often feel invisible

The project will enable carers to meet up in a social environment with the choice of bringing the person they care for with them. Allow them to take part in gentle exercise which will improve their health and well being followed by a cafe type atmosphere to promote social interaction, prevent loneliness and offer each other mutual support.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    To improve fitness and health

» gentle exercise provided by a qualified instructor

Carers will feel fitter and better able to cope with their caring role

    Aim 2

    Reduce social isolation

» Provide a cafe environment following the exercise session to encourage social interaction

Carers will feel less isolated and make new friends, share experiences and offer each other mutual support

    Aim 3

    Improve mental health

» It is proved that exercise improves mental health, anxiety and stress

Carers will feel less stressed, show less anxiety and have better mental health

  • Impact

Reduce social isolation and form new friendships
    Reduce loneliness
    Promote better mental health
    Enable carers to feel healthier
This will enable carers to cope better with their caring role
To enable new social networks to start to develop

A study by Carers UK showed 8 in 10 Carers have felt lonely or socially isolated as a result of their caring responsibilities

This project main aim to tackle this statistic and improve the lives of Carers in Hillingdon

If this was popular and achieved all its outcomes we would want to continue and expand the project beyond the first year of funding.

We would look for additional funding/sponsership to continue the project
