  • Need

    Need

In South London, there are many difficulties for football mad young people finding a career in the sport they love.
1 in 4 young people are overweight
1 in 3 teenagers don't achieve five A*-C grades at GCSE

We are running this project not only to give young children in the community an opportunity to participate in competitive sport for maybe the first time, but give our young people a chance to enrol on event specific courses helping increase their chances of employment in the future.

    Solution

We will run an officiating course, event management course and coaching course to make this event a success. These qualifications will give the young people the confidence to deliver the event on the day but also give them something which they may be able to use when applying for jobs in the future.

The event will also be great for the confidence of young people having to interact with adults and children throughout the day to ensure the event is a success.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide a festival which can be enjoyed by current scholars, families and the wider community.

    Activities

» Use publicity material to spread the word and then ensure the festival is well-run and organised with a variety of activities on the day.

Stage Football Festival in June 2017

    Aim 2

Increase participation of young people in the community

    Activities

» The tournament will give many young people the chance to enter teams, participate and most importantly have fun.

Attracting 50 teams to the festival.

    Aim 3

Better market the Foundation and its activities in South London

    Activities

» Use the budget raised from this project to advertise in local schools, sports clubs and social media to engage with more people.

With marketing material online and in hard copies.

    Aim 4

Show off the skills of the young people that we work with and give them a platform to perform

    Activities

» Put on courses and training days in advance of the event to give young people the qualifications needed to run this event.

Positive feedback in how the event was ran and how the organisers performed on the day.

  • Impact

    Impact

The festival will give the foundation a strong network from which to generate future support.
Support, whether that's financial or simply shouting about the work that we do, will allow us to reach a larger group in the future and maximise the work we do in the community. We will also be able to generate from the funds raised an army of coaches, officials and volunteers who are in better stead to progress into a career in the sport that they love. Success will be 10% gaining paid employment.

    Risk

The risk is that we would not be able to attract enough teams to the festival to see what we are able to offer to the wider community.

We will deal with these risks by better marketing the event through word of mouth, social media and leafleting. The event will only be a success if we have enough people there to experience the work that the Foundation does with it's young people.

    Reporting

Donors will be added to the newsletter list to receive updates on what we are up to and how they might be able to help, how they can get involved in the event and how they can help spread the word of the Foundation and it's work.

  • Background

    Location

The festival will take place at Dulwich College Tank Fields on 18th June 2017. The college have kindly donated their grounds to us for free.

This event has been running for 5 years now and has continued to grow. We are at a stage where we need to raise funds to enable it to continue to grow and provide a fantastic experience for young primary school children in the local area.

    Beneficiaries

Scholars: Our current young people will be given the opportunity to partake in recognised relevant courses in helping run the event, officiate the matches and coach the younger children who enter the event.

Young Children: be part of a well-run football tournament giving them an opportunity to play competitive sport for maybe the first time whilst being active!

Leavers: an opportunity to reconnect with the Foundation and the coaches who have helped them progress

    People

    James Fotheringham

James will coordinate the festival on the day and organise the courses, the mentoring project and that the event is a success to the donors.

    Michael Puttock

Marketing the project to the wider community and ensuring enough teams register to participate.

    Access Sport

To provide the opportunity for our leavers to mentor the current scholars in making this event a success.

£100

will pay for one young person to enrol on a qualification of their choice.

Giving these young people an opportunity to enrol on different courses outside of college is fantastic not only for their educational attainment but for their self-confidence when looking at options after college. We had one boy who went on to coach in Academy football
