Hammerson House Redevelopment

Hammerson House is no longer suitable to meet the needs of today’s and future residents.

We want to redevelop Hammerson House to enable us to provide care in a building where the physical design and space has been considered with residents needs in mind, in particular those living with Dementia.

  • Need

    Need

Our project is to redevelop Hammerson House which will enable us to provide care in a building where the physical design and space has been considered with residents needs in mind.

Layout and configuration of bedrooms need to be improved to enable space to manoeuvre specialist equipment and improve sight lines to en-suite bathrooms.

More communal space is required for activities and therapies.

    Solution

The overall capacity of the home will increase from 85 to 120 residents. The design of the new building will allow for maximum flexibility in the use of rooms to meet any fluctuations in demand from different clients in the future. We will also need to provide localised lounges, dining rooms and reminiscence rooms and activity kitchens in order that residents can be cared for in smaller clusters of 20 people in accordance with the latest thinking.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To build a care home that has the needs of residents living with dementia at the heart of the plans.

    Activities

» The proposed plans take into consideration the latest models of care and the experience that we already have from the Wohl Wing at Nightingale House.

We will be able to accept applications for residential, nursing, dementia and respite care.

    Aim 2

To ensure that we can provide suitable accommodation for residents who are wheelchair users.

    Activities

» The plans of the new building take in to consideration the need for specialist equipment and the need for more communal areas due to wheelchair use.

We will be able to accept applications for residential, nursing, dementia and respite care.

    Aim 3

To provide suitable accommodation for residents who have specialist care needs.

    Activities

» One room on each floor will be suitable for bariatric residents. Rooms are larger to enable specialist equipment to be used.

We will be able to accept applications for residential, nursing, dementia and respite care.
