  • Need

Survivors of sexual violence suffer long-lasting impacts on their health, wellbeing and life. Without timely specialist support they can develop new, or increase existing, mental health problems. Sexual violence also has a ripple effect and impacts upon the survivor's family. Therefore this project is to enable women and girls to cope and recover following any form of sexual violence whether recent or historic.

SRC has learnt that delivering professional accredited long-term counselling works to empower women and girls to take back control of their lives, reduces mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, post-traumatic stress and increases their economic ability.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To relieve distress and sickness for women and girls that have experienced sexual violence

» Delivering free face-to-face counselling sessions for women and girls in Suffolk

We monitor and evaluate the journey women and girls go through from before to after counselling and the beneficial difference counselling has made for them.

  • Impact

We expect to see a reduction in mental health issues, unhealthy coping mechanisms and the ability to return to work or training following counselling. We are able to demonstrate this through the feedback we receive.

The structure is already in place for this work and the only risk is if we were to lose any of our wonderful professional counsellors!

We will keep donors informed on a regular basis which we are happy to do either via email or letter on the impact their funding is having. Donors would be more than welcome to visit us so we can explain more about our work.
