Building a future for the street children of Dhaka
I am pleased to say that following the success of last year's Big Give campaign the land we needed in Dhaka was purchased. Are you able to help us help the poor children of Dhaka again?
Charity information: The Sreepur Village, Bangladesh
We have been forced to make difficult choices about where to divert our funding and one of the choices that saddens us most is our lack of night time provision for young girls, who are incredibly vulnerable on the streets at night.
Furthermore, we’ve always rented buildings for our street children project. Frustratingly landlords place restrictions on our opening times, preventing us from providing some of Dhaka's most impoverished children with the full care and support they urgently need.
Now after purchasing land we can offer a safe haven with outside play areas that will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. This will allow us to provide an urgently needed night shelter for our girls, as well as our boys.
Provide a safe and secure place for vulnerable girls to sleep at night time.
Activities» A separate girls' dormitory will be a crucial part of the new centre; we will also recruit female staff to care for our girls during their stay.
Money raised for this project will provide a spacious dormitory for our girl beneficiaries.
Providing 24 hour care to the street children of Dhaka.
Activities» Our centre will allow us to choose our own opening times. The centre will be run and managed by professional staff 24 hours a day.
We will no longer be restricted by landlords's opening times and will be able to provide a 24 hour service.
Give children a safe place to move, play and have fun!
Activities» We will provide outside and indoor play areas where games and sports can be played.
We will create indoor play areas and reserve outside space so that children can run, play and be creative!
Offer children a brighter future.
Activities» We will continue to provide street children with food, education, medical support, care and love; offering them the chance of a brighter future.
Success will be demonstrated by the centre being fully staffed and running and the street children of Dhaka know there is a safe-haven they can access whenever they wish.
The children we work with are street children: they have no shelter, no voice, no rights and often nobody in the world to care for them. They are not properly taken care of, malnourished and prone to disease.
At the Sreepur Village we believe every child's life is precious. We offer good nutrition, hygiene, medical support, education, care and love to our child beneficiaries and the opportunity to create a better life off the streets.
Purchasing land is Dhaka is no easy feat; we were lucky enough to purchase land that already had planning permission.
We will update donors by sending our newsletters that will notify them of any significant developments.

The street children centre will be located in Dhaka.
A centre owned and run by the Sreepur Village will allow us to expand our services reaching out to more children and crucially offering a much needed night shelter for our vulnerable girls, as well as our boys. The Sreepur Village offers life-changing opportunities and a brighter future to some of Bangladesh’s poorest children. Wherever possible our ultimate goal is to take children off of the streets, into education and a secure family environment.
The Sreepur Village has 28 years experience working with destitute women and children in Bangladesh. Since 2010 our professional staff have been running a street children project in Dhaka. In the last 5 years the project has continued to grow and develop, with news of the centre and its services spreading by word of mouth among our child beneficiaries. The centre is much loved by the children we serve and is well respected within the NGO community that we work alongside.
