Sustainable Nutritional Advocates

Most mothers arrive at Sreepur under nourished, this year’s campaign is focusing on the nutrition of our beneficiaries by training mothers on choosing and preparing nutritious meals, and growing a variety of seasonal crops. Mothers will leave as advocates for healthy eating.

  • Need


    The mothers and children who come to us are the most vulnerable in a very poor country. They are often from rural areas with an unstable geography (floods etc.). Female led households amongst the poorer communities are the ones who suffer most from lack of food and often have poor living conditions and limited access to education.


    Motivation of mothers, children and staff to improve the nutritional health of their own and other children. Mothers becoming ‘Change Agents”.
    Mothers and staff working together smoothly and with the same goals. There will be a Support Team when mothers return to their communities. Understanding of nutritious foods and diet, and how these impact on health and wellbeing

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Know what crops can be grown in which season to ensure healthy vegetables are available for meals


    » Agriculture classes, particularly growing vegetables in rice sacks as this can be done anywhere in a limited space.

    What success will look like

    We will witness this at SPP in the success of the crops/ vegetables that are grown

    Aim 2

    How to cook without losing the nutritious value of the food.


    » Teach nutritional value of foods to mothers with particular emphasis on reducing consumption of carbohydrates and oil.

    What success will look like

    Monthly then quarterly informal and formal assessments of food knowledge.

    Aim 3

    Mothers leave motivated to spread the word within their communities and work place.


    » Mothers will work closely with our staff and become change agents, teaching other mothers and children at SPP.

    What success will look like

    Six monthly weight checks on village visits.
    Questionnaire extended to families and neighbours.

  • Impact


    Revolution of cooking and eating in the village with reduced consumption of rice and oil and greater consumption of vegetables and lentils.

    National recognition of the importance of child nutrition.


    Continued ignorance on the benefits of good nutrition and what good nutrition means will result in vitamin deficiencies, anaemia etc.

    Children are the future of the nation and cannot learn or develop properly without proper nutrition.


    We will update donors by sending our newsletters that will notify them of any significant developments.

  • Background


    This will be based at our core project - The Sreepur Village, which is about 30 miles north of the capital city Dhaka.


    Initially the 600 mothers and children who currently live at the village, but this will lead to supporting rural communities to grow, cook and eat more nutritious food.
