  • Need

Isolation, or a deep sense of loneliness, is a common complaint of many elderly is the feeling of being isolated. While there are a few who impose it on themselves, isolation is most often imposed purposefully or inadvertently by the families and/or communities where the elderly live. Isolation is a terrible feeling that, if not addressed, leads to deterioration of the quality of life.
Boredom is another dilemma faced by elderly. Physical problems such as sight loss stops hobby activity.

We offer an opportunity for elderly to meet each other and engage in fun productive activities in the company of old and new friends and young volunteers.
We also co-ordinate community activities such as musical events, art workshops, trips and retreats which engages young and elderly simultaneously. Moreover we arrange voluntary placements; young visit elderly and elderly volunteer at youth clubs!
Finally we run a daily program of exercise, musical entertainment, tea, and a full HOBBY HUB-

  • Impact

    Our 3 key outcomes are;

Isolation and boredom amongst elderly will be significantly alleviated. Elderly will enjoy companiable and productive days.We will demonstrate this at our Hobby Hub exhibition where elderly will display masterpieces they worked on.Our social worker will report on emotional improvement.

Elderly will be integrated in community life via volunteering opportunities and co-events between elderly and youth.

Finally young people will learn to respect and appreciate elderly.

We appreciate that we are limited by financial, safety and weather challenges.

Although we are financially secure we are prudent to keep costs low and carry out internal financial audits.
We have taken a detailed risk assessment and evaluate key risks; to prevent spilling teas and coffees, we have purchased anti-tremble cups. when elderly engage with children we have designated a room for adults only-hot drinks may only be enjoyed there.
We have planned contingency trips during bad weather.

Donors will be offered to chose to be updated according to their preferences.

With options on email/post monitoring and evaluation updates. Phone calls, social media e.g. twitter, personal visits and more.

  • Background

Currently, there are 10.8 million people aged 65 or over in the UK and this is expected to rise by 16 million over the next 20 years. Of those 10.8 million, 3.8 million live alone, and one million say they are always, or often feel, lonely. 17% of older people have less than weekly contact with family, friends and neighbours.
Depression in older people is linked with socio-economic status.Hackney has 2nd highest number of elder residents living in deprived housholds-43% verses 22% nationally.

Elderly people aged 65+ of both genders with a priority focus on those living alone ,those affected by poverty, Alzheimer `s and dementia.
    Children and young adults.
We are based in Hackney but since we offer transport our users come from 5 different boroughs including Barnet, Haringey, Islington and more.
