Ensemble Cymru - Celebrating 15 years!
Time to celebrate all that’s good about Ensemble Cymru. Through live events, work with schools & children, concerts in care, internships, recordings, films, and broadcasts we’re going to excite people about our work & grow our family of supporters for the next 15 years for people in Wales.
January 2017 - December 2017
- Ensemble Cymru's work for the educational welfare of children & quality of life for people in care settings, supporting the employability of young people and advancing people's understanding of Wales' classical music heritage and contemporary culture is invisible to many people who would otherwise support us.
- An annual major grant to Ensemble Cymru will be coming to an end in 2018 due to the planned winding up a supporting Trust.
- Chamber music as an art form is not well understood by many.
What we do through music for people in Wales is as important as the music itself and how well we perform it.
Through pictures, videos, broadcasts, recordings and case studies of 12 months of activities, Ensemble Cymru will:
- demonstrate how we will continue to use music to make a positive impact for the welfare of people in Wales;
- Further the understanding of chamber music and Wales’ heritage and contemporary culture in classical music;
- Galvanise support for the charity’s next 15 years.

THe location of the project will be in north Wales region which has a low population density with between 600 and 700 thousand people. Much of the region counts among the most deprived in Europe e.g. North West Wales There is little major industry and business most are micro enterprises or SME. The demographics also point to a higher number of older people. The area has 2 official languages Welsh and English. Ensemble Cymru is the only year round classical music ensemble company working here
Children in deprived primary schools in rural areas, people in care e.g. dementia sufferers and their families and carers. Young musicians, composers and aspiring arts / charity managers. AUdiences attending the platform for young people and hearing the music of young composers.
Ensemble Cymru is the only year round classical music ensemble working outside of Cardiff in Wales. Though small we have a marketing officer, administrator and executive officer/artistic director. We have been a charity for 15 years and our most recent big success was the first commercially available Welsh language recording of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf with actor Rhys Ifans.
