  • Need

One of the greatest challenges facing the borough of Hackney is poverty and disadvantage caused by uneducated adults unable to secure jobs & a decent income. We aim to break this poverty by providing disadvantaged YP at risk of NEET, with training towards employment.
In addition children in Hackney often receive little/no support from their parents towards school work, due to large families and poorly educated parents. This puts a strain on a child's education & makes them less able to achieve.

This project will enable YP to gain training and certificates in special education, volunteer training, childcare, teaching methods & safeguarding; furthering employment possibilities, reducing poverty and boosting confidence whilst providing vital skills to deal with children.
It will also further the education of the beneficiaries who will receive support with their studies.
There will be lasting sustainability in jobs, accreditation & volunteering opportunities created by this project.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To provide Young People with training and accreditation towards working with children.

» A Unique Teaching methods course to provide YP with skills and tips towards making learning more interesting and effective for all.
» A safeguarding course for YP to prepare them in all matters related to the safeguarding of children..
» A Special Education course to assist those that will be working with children with special needs or learning difficulties.

    What success will look like

YP will receive certificates at the end of their training, demonstrating their success and competence in these areas.

    Aim 2

To promote volunteering and inter-generational ties among disadvantaged YP in Hackney.

» As part of the training we'll provide a volunteer training course to discuss benefits of volunteering and how one can contribute to their community.
» Young People working with school children, will greatly improve neighborliness and inter-generational ties

    What success will look like

YP will volunteer to mentor a minimum of two school children for 6 months after the completion of their training.

    Aim 3

To improve out of school education for children.

» Young People will work on a 1:1 basis with school children to assist them with their studies and homework in the evenings and on Sundays.

    What success will look like

Over 80 Primary school children from local schools in Hackney will benefit from a qualified mentor to help them with homework and study after out of school hours.

    Aim 4

    Improve confidence and job experience

» By mentoring a young child and helping them achieve, YP will increase their self-confidence and gain valuable work experience.

    What success will look like

YP will gain work experience by mentoring and teaching school children on a 1:1 basis.

  • Impact

This project will increase the employment possibilities of disadvantaged YP at risk of NEET by providing them with training towards employment and teaching. It will also improve the education of school children and level of volunteering within our community by enabling YP to mentor children.
These changes will be monitored by noting the effect this has on YP employment numbers and receiving feedback from schools rating the difference this project made on the youngsters educational attainment.

There is a risk of YP and children's safety, therefore all tutors will have a current DBS check and any YP working with children will also be subject to a DBS check and safeguarding training.
In addition there is a risk that we may not find candidates to be mentored, therefore our administrator will liaise with local schools to receive a list of potential beneficiaries.

Funders will receive a mid-way and end of project report including pictures and data.
