  • Need

    We are trying to solve several problems:
    1) Increasing presence of hyenas and their proximity to the buildings/people in Cheshire Home
    2) Shortages of water and electricity cuts which pose serious implications to the health, safety and well being of our patients
    3) Poor kitchen facilities restricting the provision of food for our patients
    4) Dated canteen and entertainment units

    1) Ensure the safety and security of our patients and other residents of Cheshire Home in Menagesha by putting a fence round the whole facility;
    2) Guarantee constant and uninterrupted supply of water and electricity to the site by buying and installing a powerful generator;
    3) Completely renew and update dated kitchen used to provide meals for our patients
    4) Upgrade the canteen and entertainment facilities

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Ensure that our patients and other residents' on the site are safe and secure

    » To build a fence around the whole facility preventing hyenas from entering the site

    What success will look like

    We will interview our staff and other people who use the facility and reported increased threat from hyena's to determine the success of the fence

    Aim 2

    Ensure constant uninterrupted supply of water and electricity to the site

    » Buying and installing a large generator

    What success will look like

    The outcome of installing a large generator will be self evident as it will immediately stop water shortages and electricity cuts

    Aim 3

    Update and completely renew kitchen, canteen and entertainment facilities

    » Buy and install new kitchen and entertainment units, replace plumbing where necessary etc

    What success will look like

    We will interview our staff who use the kitchen, as well as monitor, observe and report the impact of the renewal/update

  • Impact

    The changes we aim to introduce are material, the necessity and impact of their introduction is easy to determine. Cheshire Home in Menagesha is used not only by our charity, but several others (including Project Harar who operate in Facing Africa House), so changes we introduce will provide sense of safety and security and well being not only for us but for all residents on the site for years to come.
    This will be demonstrated by the detailed reports and interviews with the residents

    The risks of this project are relatively few and low as changes we are going to introduce are material e.g. new generator, new kitchen, security fence

    The biggest challenge we will face will be sourcing reliable equipment for the project and finding the trustworthy labour force to install it.

    We have already done some substantial market research and have approached several relevant companies that were recommended to us.

    Donors will receive newsletters, email updates, detailed reports regarding the progress of the project.
