June 2017 - September 2017
Society Of Friends Of Westminster Cathedral
Westminster Cathedral Hall underwent substantial renovations in 1995. Since then due to lack of funds the premises have nor been kept up to date. This makes the Hall less attractive as a community space and impairs potential letting income from the Hall which could be used for future maintenance.
Through the anniversary year various fundraising projects will be held to renovate the Hall and other areas of the Cathedral precincts in need of attention. By raising £32,000 at Christmas 2016 the most urgent project the toilet renovation can be addressed.

If we raise £32,000 then the renovation can go ahead.
There will be greater community use of the Hall due to providing improved facilities. The potential for hiring the Hall out commercially will be increased and income will grow which will aid future maintenance
The project may go over budget. We will keep in close touch with the contractor to monitor progress and cost against budget. If there is unavoidable cost overrun we will contact members who have supported the project and ask for additional contributions.
Donors are not used to giving to The Friends online. The director will be available to members to support them if they have questions and the computer facilities in the office can be made available to members wishing to donate.
The Friends produce an illustrated newsletter every six months which is circulated to all members. A full report on the progress of the appeal and the actual work will be included in the newsletter.

A congregation of about 3,500 people. Some of the main users of the Hall are the poorer members of the congregation including migrants from the Philippines and Nigeria.
In the winter months the Hall is used as a night shelter once a week for local homeless people.
We have a 40 year track recording of raising funds to help keep the Cathedral in good repair. In the last ten years we raised over £1 million when the domes of the roof of the Cathedral had deteriorated, we have renewed the heating system, provided toilets for the Cathedral itself, renovated the Cathedral Tower Lift and improved the West Door with an inner glass door to allow the Cathedral to be visible externally without compromising the heating.
