Kent Young Carers Festival
Providing Young Carers in Kent with a chance to have a break from their caring roles by spending two days, one night away from home in a group environment doing outdoor activities, team building, having fun and being children again.
August 2016 - August 2016
Charity information: Imago Community
Young Carers can miss out on social activities due to their caring roles for family members who have mental health issues, drug/alcohol misuse, disabilities or long term conditions.
They can often have lowered self-esteem, be lacking in confidence and be bullied.
The Festival will offer the Young Carers a break from caring, a chance to meet new people, build their social networks and make friends.
The outdoor activities will increase their physical and emotional well-being, building their resilience.
Making a Difference to the lives of Children and Young People
Activities» To develop services which reduce isolation, provide respite and increase self-esteem.
Post event feedback and ongoing assessments of the caring roles will indicate the change made.
Increased confidence, self-esteem and resilience. These in turn will assist with their school attendance and achievement and life chances.
The Young Carers assessment scores and post-intervention/annual questionnaires will show a change over time for the roles they are taking on and how they feel about the caring roles.
Young Carers may be unable to attend the Festival at short notice if the cared for person is unwell. A waiting list of Young Carers ready to attend will be held and called upon if needed.
