Water an(d) Animal

We have been building water wells for the poorest communities in the driest rural areas of Africa. Clean water help people and animals survive. We would like to add gifting animals to our efforts to provide life-long income to improve the lives of vulnerable groups: children and women.

  • Need

Lack of clean water which causes diseases to spread and lack of hygiene which lead to death in many cases. The majority of losses are children under the age of 5. People cannot keep animals or water their plants as they are not able to carry enough water for the purpose from the faraway sources of water. Women and girls are traditionally the ones who fetch water, and the long journeys result in them getting ill and/or missing out on school.

A clean local water source - a well - helps people keep clean, thus reducing illness, diseases and loss of lives. Local accessibility makes life easier for women and girls who have time to attend school. Water ensures that people can keep animals and plants, so they have a source of nutrition and income from eggs, milk, meat and wool etc. and a means of survival and a chance to grow financially. A better economy provides better schooling and more job opportunities.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Provide clean water.

    » Build water wells.

    What success will look like

We will build two water wells where needed most. One water well takes 3 months to complete.

    Aim 2

    Provide life-long income.

» Donate animals such as chickens, sheep and goats.

    What success will look like

We will gift animals to the poorest families where we have built the water wells. We can help up to 50 families in one community, who are pointed out by the local authorities.

  • Impact

Communities will evidently thrive on clean water: diseases and number of deaths will be reduced, people will be better nourished, communities will be able to water animals and possibly cultivate plants, which will encourage trade and increase financial income for the community.

Local political issues or local water well construction company may delay our project unneccessarily. We will build the water wells in areas where the local authorities give permission for us to do so which will ensure faster completion of building water wells. We will pay out the full amount to the company once the work is completed which will reduce delays as they will want to be paid sooner.

We will take photos and recordings of the progress of the construction and opening ceremony of the wells. We will produce invoices for the work carried out and the purchase of the animals. We will publish photos and videos on social media as well.

  • Background

Little villages around the Addis Ababa the capital city of Ethiopia.

People living in the villages near Addis Ababa and facing serious drought and poverty. The most vulnerable groups, children and women will have a better chance to survive and thrive, as they will not have to spend time fetching water instead of attending school or their families e.g. the elderly, they will be better nourished by having eggs, milk and meat, and cultivated plants, and they will be less prone to contract diseases if they have access to clean water which improves hygiene.
