Happier and Healthier Workshops
We wish to provide additional activities that promote health, happiness and well-being to people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and their families, to help reduce the isolation caused by MS and support our clients to have a better quality of life.
January 2017 - December 2017
Charity information: Revive MS Support
Many of our clients (people affected by MS) who access our services tell us that they feel increasingly isolated and lonely as their symptoms progress. We have frequently been asked to provide more social activities around art, nutrition and meditation as people feel comfortable at Revive and would like to interact more with other people with MS. However, at our current centre in Maryhill, we do not have the space or staff to run these extra activities, so have never sought funding for them.
We will be moving to a new, larger centre in September this year which will give us flexible space to deliver more activities for our clients and their families. If we were able to attract funding to run a series of classes and workshops to meet our clients wishes we would be helping to reduce their feeling of isolation and improving their quality of life as a result.
To empower and enhance the wellbeing of those that use the services at Revive MS Support.
Activities» The WEE class (Wellbeing Enhancing & Empowering) which we will deliver to help clients learn about their condition and develop coping strategies.
» Mindfulness Meditation Class to help our clients be more aware of themselves and how they can become more creative and positive.
» Nutrition workshop to help clients manage their diet, ask questions about what to avoid and understand treatment-related challenges related to diet.
» Creative writing and art classes to develop the social interactions that happen in the centre, and help people express and understand their feelings.
Feedback from our clients at our next review will show less adverse comments about isolation, that they are happier and are better able to cope with their condition.
The project will reduce our clients' social isolation, enhance peer support and community spirit and improve the quality of life of MS sufferers using Revive services.
We will monitor the success of this project through our regular client reviews. Ongoing client engagement with these classes combined with good feedback will show that we are delivering a positive service to enhance their wellbeing and quality of life.
We have already run a pilot project with excellent feedback. The main reason for not introducing a full programme at our current Centre is lack of space and funding. When we move to larger premises in September 2016, the only risk will be funding. If we do not secure the funding for all the activities, we will start with one while we seek more funding for the remainder.
Donors will receive an annual report about the project, which will include feedback from participants and statistics about the numbers of people attending and the impact the project has had on the clients and other services at Revive.

The project will be taking place in our new Therapy Centre based in Govan, Glasgow which is only a mile away from the main diagnostic centre for MS at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and it deals with MS patients from across 6 local authority areas.
Our clients are those living with MS, plus their family and carers who live in the Greater Glasgow area and beyond.
Scotland has the highest prevalence of Multiple Sclerosis in the world, with 1 in every 450 people affected. Currently we mainly support people from the Glasgow area (approx 1200 per annum). The location of our new premises will enable more people to access these activities.
These classes and workshops have been requested by our clients who enjoy the social side of Revive and would like a wider range of activities.
Revive is the only organisation in Scotland which employs specialist staff to support people with MS. It's main focus is on a guided journey of therapeutic care to help alleviate the symptoms of this progressive disease and improve sufferers' quality of life.
