For over forty years we have helped struggling families get a break. Something as simple as a day out or a few days by the coast creates a vital opportunity for children and parents to spend quality time together away from the daily grind, resulting in healthier and happier families and communities

Each year 1.46 million families in the UK – that’s 4.74 million people – are unable to access a simple day out together. Many are affected by problems such as severe and long-term illness, bereavement, mental health issues, disability or domestic violence, and sadly it is these families who would most benefit from a day or two away from home.
We are doing everything we can to put things right. Last year we were able to send more families than ever on a short break to the British coast or a simple day trip to a local attraction or museum.
This is a fantastic achievement, but unfortunately still only scratches the surface of the problem of lack of access to breaks. By supporting us, you’ll be helping us to give even more families not only a ticket to the seaside or a local attraction, but also a ticket to a happier, brighter future.
Develop existing schemes and engage with new partners to send more struggling families on days out.
Activities» Use 'The Big Day Out', successfully pilotted in Kent and more recently Hertfordshire, as a model for potential adoption in other regions
» Recruit new partners to 'Summer Days Out' (successful pilot project in 2015 with National Express, National Trust and York Pass).
» Investigate new schemes and opportunities, particularly around utilising spare capacity at leisure attractions
We want to see a year on year increase the number of schemes and number of families helped.
Our charity was founded on the belief that holidays are a lifeline, not a luxury. Evidence shows that spending time together away from daily hardship can be life-changing for the families we work with.
Whilst the original remit of the charity focused on holidays (a short break away from home), days out are equally important. They are often awarded to those who might struggle to spend a night away, perhaps because they lack confidence, have caring responsibilities or medical issues.
Without our work, many more families each year would go without even a simple day out with many compound implications on the welfare of their family and community relationships.
We have, over a number of years, developed delivery mechanisms and funded pilot projects that successfully identify and benefit those who will the most from benefit from a break away from home.
The charity produces an annual impact report and overall charity report, summarising income and activity that is made available to all supporters in print and digital formats.
All donors are thanked by email or letter, depending on their stated preferences.

The Family Holiday Association works throughout the UK. Applications for funding that meet our criteria are accepted and allocated on a first come basis up to our funding capability in any given year.
The charity works to support UK families on low income who have not been on holiday together within the last four years and will not be able to access a break any other way.
By working with referrers, we can be sure that the funds we raise help the families who will benefit most.
Problems affecting families we help include mental health issues such as anxiety or depression (72%), domestic violence (38%), physical health issues (33%) or have been victims of abuse & harassment (32%).
The Family Holiday Association is the only national charity dedicated to providing seaside breaks and day trips for families struggling with some of the toughest challenges life can bring. These families are referred to us by professionals in the community such as teachers and social workers.

The look on Maria's face when we told her we were going to the seaside was priceless. For a few wonderful days, the pressure of life was lifted, Rebecca looked brighter, Maria laughed and played, and we all felt happy. For once we had memories not tinged with sadness.
