The Gift Of Sleep
Lack of sleep can make children & parents more vulnerable, stressed, unable to cope. We will provide one-one support to struggling families in London in crisis who have sleep issues with their youngsters. Our support will improve the mental, physical and emotional well-being of the whole family.
Charity information: The Children's Sleep Charity
Research shows that up to 40% of children will suffer with a sleep issue at some point. Sleep deprivation can lead families into crisis. Our project will empower families to make changes to address sleep issues using a behavioural approach based on the latest research.
Input from a sleep practitioner will allow families to feel more in control and develop their parenting skills.
Children who are sleep deprived cannot meet their full potential, our project aims to address this issue.
Families will have the opportunity to attend a sleep clinic with a qualified sleep practitioner. They will be supported to identify why their child has sleep issues and what positive action can be taken in order to address these. Each family will be provided with a sleep programme to follow.
Follow up support is offered for up to 6 weeks while the family implement the changes.
Our approach has a 90% success rate.
Children will be healthier, happier, and better able to learn & develop.
To improve the sleep patterns of 60 children and their families who need it most due to low income.
Activities» Provide sleep clinics, a sleep programme and follow up support for 60 families.
What success will look like
Our success is measured by using a Child Sleep Index tool. This measurements allows us to compare sleep patterns pre and post intervention.
Our project will also ensure that in future families experience better sleep patterns. This in turn leads to improved health, child development and learning. By empowering families with knowledge around sleep and parenting skills we will break down the cycle of poverty and disadvantage in the future. We will demonstrate this by following up families after 6 months to evaluate the longer term impact of the project.
Lack of engagement from families could by a risk factor. There is currently no sleep support in the area so this will be a new notion to families. We will ensure that we have a robust marketing plan in order to reach families via community nurses and children's centres. We will also develop a waiting list to ensure that all appointments are filled wherever possible.
We will report to donors via an email report outlining the number of families we reached. We will also include statistics around improved sleep patterns and case studies.

Tower Hamlets, Barnet, Hackney, Haringey, Southwark, L.ambeth, Lewisham, Croydon, Merton, Hounslow
We will aim to establish links with childrens centres and clinics in these areas to host the sleep clinics so that the families can easily get to the clinic.
Parents - who are struggling financially, emotionally and in terms of parenting skills, will benefit from the practical support in helping their children get a good night's sleep.
Children - who suffer lack of sleep will benefit hugely both emotionally and physically. Their behaviour will also change so that they can absorb and learn better at school and at home.
Teachers will also benefit by having disruptive and challenging children coming to school ready to learn.
