Charity information: Amity Educational Foundation
Mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunties, uncles and carers are usually the first and the most important teachers of a child. If family members are not educated well, evetually this will negatively affect the next generation. Particularly if English is not their first language, family members experience various problems regarding understanding and supporting their child(ren).
Amity will help family members develop their communication skills by organizing Family Language Courses. This will help boost parents', carers' and young people’s confidence, create an atmosphere of engagement with each other and ultimately provide an opportunity for everyone to explore and understand their full potential of communication and social skills.
To encourage intergenerational learning
Activities» English as an additional language (ESOL) classes.
» English and Mathematics lessons.
» Seminars for parents.
What success will look like
We are planning to set exams before the course to measure their previous knowledge on the particular fields. At the end of the term we will repeat the exams to see the progress.
Family Learning will provide a good introduction to learning for adults and will build confidence in supporting children's learning. Benefits for children include improved social skills and relationships with peers and adults. Courses give adults a sample of the range of learning opportunities available.
In the long term families will have improved their communication and social skills. The older generation will have found new opportunities to approach and understand the younger generation.
Amity has done this kind of project before so many times and has the experience to avoid possible risks.
We will set up a detailed report, together with pictures and figures. This report will be published and a copy will be sent to donors.
The donors will be able to visit the classes and check the progress of the project.
