  • Need

    Need

The area is a rural poor mainly farming area. We have started developing several projects to help local people develop their skills, know their rights. We have had the use of one room in a building but we have now outgrown so need new offices as well as providing a resource and training centre for the local people

    Solution

Firstly we want to purchase the land and then employ locals to start building as and when we get funds.
By purchasing our own land and building offices and extra ones to let, community hall for letting and the resource centre we will be providing employment and training for the local people.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Purchase land

    Activities

» Fundraising and contacting local trusts and businesses
    » Music concert

Land is purchased and have registration certificate

    Aim 2

    Build office block

    Activities

    » Purchase a brick fundraiser

We have our offices and also gain income from rent from the other offices

    Aim 3

    Conference hall/training centre

    Activities

» Use money from courses until we can afford to build

People will gain knowledge in human rights and also business training to start their own small businesses. These will all be monitored

    Aim 4

Research, community resource (library), computer suite

    Activities

» Collect computer equipment and use skills already developed by our staff

People will attend and learn skills which can be tested. People coming to read or helped to read

    Aim 5

    Accomodation

    Activities

» Use local Interns on work experience developing their skills and also using theirs providing rent
» GAP year international students developing their skills and also using theirs providing rent
» International visitors staying and proving rent for the charity rather than using the hotel

People will use the accommodation and rent can be collected and used to develop the projects. Students will want to visit.

  • Impact

    Impact

The level of learning will slowly increase ad people will start to learn new skills and become more educated.

    Risk

We don't get funds to purchase the land and later develop the hub. But the land could be resold.
We will have to rent properties

  • Background

    Location

Mityana in Uganda, East Africa is a very poor area. A typical house in a village is often no more than a mud hut, built with wattle and daub, with corrugated iron roof . Being no larger than a typical English garage, these houses can accommodate up to 12 people living in extended families. Towns are slightly better, although poverty is still widespread. Agriculture is the main economy in this area. People are subsistence farmers using their own land to grow food and sell the excess

    Beneficiaries

To develop the lives of people in Mityana many are widows, single parent girls, unemployed young males. Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 30 years of age. There are 7,310,386 youth from the ages of 15–24 years of age living in Uganda.
