Bipolar UK Link Mentoring Service
Link Mentoring draws on the benefits of peer support and shared experience to: reduce isolation; increase confidence; and develop self-management skills.
Trained volunteer mentors offer a crucial link between diagnosis and living with bipolar - whether someone has as diagnosis or is a carer.
Charity information: Bipolar Uk Ltd
An indiscriminate illness, bipolar can turn a person’s world upside down - regardless of their age, gender or ethnicity.
Over 1 million people in the UK have bipolar and yet it takes a shocking average of 10.5 years to receive a correct diagnosis.
Diagnosis is not the end of the story as bipolar is a lifelong illness with no known cure. It is characterised by extreme mood changes from manic highs to suicidal lows.
We're here to offer support for eveyone affected by bipolar.
Bipolar UK is dedicated to supporting individuals and their loved ones affected by bipolar.
Bipolar UK’s Link Mentoring service provides intensive one-to-one support for individuals who are struggling to see a way forward.
Peer support is provided by trained and supervised volunteers with a diagnosis of bipolar, for individuals with bipolar - as well as for carers by carers. Because we offer phone mentoring, anyone in the UK can access our support.
Provide 1-2-1 support for individuals affected by bipolar.
Activities» To support and empower more people affected by bipolar.
What success will look like
We monitor the number of mentoring sessions that take place in any given year, along with the number of mentors trained in the same period.
Service users experience increased confidence, a sense of purpose and support directly from someone who has walked a similar path.
“I have gained from the skills I have learned through... the excellent training I have received in order to become a Mentor for the Link Mentoring Service. This has played a major role in me being able to successfully form a bond with mentees. Volunteering on the service has boosted my own self confidence, gives me purpose and its great to feel part of a team."
The greatest risk with all our services is not raising enough funds to deliver against the accelerating demand for support.
Our donors will receive an end of year impact statement as well as communication throughout the year.
In addition, we encourage donors to sign up to our monthly e-news, to keep up to date on bipolar and Bipolar UK.
