Supportline - 24/7 helpline for victims of crime
Supportline is our 24/7 helpline available to victims of crime, no matter when the crime took place. More than half of all calls are received outside daytime operating hours, when victims are at their most vulnerable. Took run Supportline 24/7 we rely on donations.
Charity information: Victim Support
Supportline is the only free 24 hour helpline for victims and witnesses of any crime.
Following the tragic terror attacks and incidents last year Victim Support took the decision to extend our operating hours and provide a 24 hour service for anyone affected.
With your help, we can build its capacity and continue to run the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making sure that no victim is left to deal with the consequences of such traumatic events alone.
Last year Supportline answered 55,074 calls from people affected by crime and now the service regularly receives around 5,000 calls and 400 emails each month, from victims living in communities across England and Wales.
On average the service makes in excess of 40 Local Authority or Police Safeguarding referrals a month. Without Supportline thousands of people affected by crime would not receive the support they require at the time they need it.
To provide free and immediate confidential emotional support to any person affected by crime
Activities» Secure funding to ensure we have resource to keep Supportline running 24 hours a day, every day.
What success will look like
By monitoring the number of incoming calls and the number of calls answered. We will also monitor the number of callers who are then referred onto our longer term support services
Since Supportline went 24/7 last March, more than half the calls received are out of hours; providing support to victims, witnesses and vulnerable people when most other services are closed ensures they feel safe and supported at often their most vulnerable time, night. We can also ensure they are then transferred over to ongoing support services in their local area where needed.
The major risk that will affect Supportline is funding as our national helpline is entirely funded by the generosity of individuals, companies and trusts. Without them, Supportline would not exist.
We need to ensure we continue to build public support to keep Supportline 24/7
Donors will be updated quarterly by a dedicated member of Victim Support's fundraising team meaning they are able to see the impact of their gift.
Donors will also have the opportunity to visit our Supportline office, meet our staff and volunteers to hear about how their donation is being used
