  • Need

    Need

Being in hospital fighting cancer is tough for anyone. For a young person, this can be an isolating and frightening time. We hope to give young people a voice, teach them new skills, and essentially inspire and bring about change in these young lives.

    Solution

The young people will be shown how to create their own music using the latest software, and encouraged to write and record a song about something that's important to them. They will have the option to record a short video about themselves.

We hope that through composition and production work, the young people will develop positive values, social competencies and a positive identity: raised self esteem and a more positive view of their personal future.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Create music

    Activities

» The young people will be shown how to create their own music, using the latest music software.

Each participant will receive their music composition at the end of each session, on a CD or as a ringtone straight to their mobile phone/ipod.

    Aim 2

    Make a video

    Activities

» The young people will be shown how to use video equipment and encouraged to tell their stories to go with their songs.

Each participant will receive a copy of their video to share with whoever they like.

  • Impact

    Impact

Music is a powerful agent. There is strong evidence about the use of music and media to help young people develop, thrive, grow and move on from challenging situations. It has social, personal and emotional benefits and is a magnet to engage with young people (Youth Music 'The Power of Music')

From experience of our other projects, participants will have raised self esteem, sense of purpose and a more positive view of their future.

The difference before and after should demonstrate this.

    Risk

Due to the different health related issues that Children at the Hospital face on a daily basis, we envisage that on occasion some individuals may not be able to attend music sessions consistently. We have therefore structured each 3 hour session/ workshop in order that each participant feels a sense of achievement after EVERY session (they will receive a CD of the music they have created at the end of each session).

    Reporting

Donors will be reported to weekly (attendance figures, outcomes) and at the conclusion of the project via a project report.
