24 hour ride-A-thon 2016

The ride-A-thon is a fun event enabling us to fundraise money towards our core costs. These include the care of the equines (who are so vital in our work) and other important costs such as insurance and utilities.

  • Need

Core cost funding is hard to come by especially when we have to raise £125,000 per year to provide our service. All our therapeutic riding lessons are subsidised by the charity so a significant proportion of that money must be raised through grants and large scale fundraising events.

The ride-A-thon is a 24 hour sponsored event. A horse or pony must be in the arena being ridden at all times. Priority places are being given to our beneficiaries but the event is also open to others to take part. All the money raised from the event will be used for core costs.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Core cost funding to enable the charity to continue its work.

» The ride-A-thon will be an annual event directly engaging with the beneficiaries, local community and local organisations.

    What success will look like

The success of the ride-A-thon even will be measured by the amount raised. The therapeutic riding it will enable is measured by evaluation forms showing progress and feedback.

  • Impact

Part of a strategy to help ensure the long term future of the charity. Our continued existence and expansion will be the best measurement.

Riding has many risks but our horses, staff and volunteers are provided with training. Staff members are all RDA General Instructors and are assessed annually. The horses and ponies also have to complete an external assessment before use. The centre is ensured and is a member of the British Horse Society.

Donors will be able to see the success of the event through our event specific webpage and general webpage. There will be a report and thank you post published on the website and our social media.

    Vicky Evans

The centre manager. It will be her responsibility to plan, organise and run the event with the help of dedicated volunteers.

£10 will subsidise one therapeutic riding lesson for a disabled child or adult.

"My son has taken to the riding straight away, he is so relaxed and happy whilst riding, and afterwards his mood is lifted. He has gained confidence and boosted his self esteem. He has sensory problems and I feel riding gives him the feedback he needs."
