Masaka District, Lwengo District, Kalungu District and Rakai District which are bordering the slum areas of Nyendo were the most affected district with HIV/AIDS and therefore there is no way the districts could avoid the problem of orphans, needy, or neglected children. Some children in those district became heads of their homes and bread earners of their families at age of 10, 11, 12 years and above.
In the effort to help the many needy, orphans, and neglected children, The Broadway Nursery & Primary School was formed by members of the community and the proprietors of the school land by merging their resources. We have agreed to be patrons of the school and will help with the supply of books to aid in the learning development of the pupils.
To aid in the supply of books for the children.
Activities» To research and find suppliers of the appropriate books needed for the pupils learning development stages. Ensuring the legitimacy of the business.
» To make contact and negotiate the supply and delivery of the books with the suppliers.
» To raise the necessary funds to pay for the books and delivery to the school for the pupils.
» To maintain regular contact with the school on the progress of the pupils using the books delivered.
What success will look like
This will be demonstrated in the delivery receipts of the purchase of books and images of the children using the books.
To visit the school and meet the pupils and staff.
Activities» To raise the necessary funds to enable at least two trustees to visit the school every other year to visibly see the progress.
What success will look like
The visits will be documented with photographs and videos to be displayed on our website and social media apps.
For the long term each child will have access to the books needed to learn. This will improve their reading and writing skills which will be shown in good exam results & more written stories from the pupils themselves to show their success in learning. This will then give them the confidence to continue learning and realise their potential to go on and become successful contributors improving the lives of the community in which they live. The photo's and videos taken on visits will show success.
Africa in general is known for corruption. The risk comes from the legitimacy of suppliers and making sure they fulfill their order and books are indeed delivered to the school. To date we have shipped the books from the UK, but have now found a local supplier which will reduce shipping costs. We have a duty to ensure the supply once ordered and paid for is delivered to the school, to which the Director of the school will promptly record and inform us and send evidence of photo images on receipt
We will regularly update our website and social media. There is also a bi annual newsletter which goes out and the annual report. Donors are also welcome to request an update at anytime.
