The Messy Club - A mobile messy art group for kids

The Messy Club started as group session at Jelly in Reading and has evolved into a mobile messy art session that can be taken to the home of any child who is disabled or too unwell to leave the house. Providing families with respite and the child with fun activities.

January 2015 – December 2020

  • Need

Families that have a child or young adult at home with additional needs can find it hard to get out of the house to attend groups as they have a lot of hospital appointments or their children may frequently be unwell. They may not have enough money to pay for activities.

Messy Club can visit families at home with mobile arts and crafts and through fund raising all sessions will be always be free for the families and carers.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To grow the number of families we work with

» Through taking arts and crafts to their homes and encouraging them to join in the activities we do as a group
» Developing our music project, working with brilliant musicians and encouraging the whole family to join in

The success will be demonstrated by more families being visited for regular sessions and more group sessions at the hospital, nurseries and local events

  • Impact

In the long term families will be happier and receive support and respite while their children are safely entertained with art and crafts. Local artists can be paid for their work and help families.

There is a risk the children involved will be too unwell for a visit but currently there are more families wanting visits than can be managed. There is a risk local artists will be busy or not free to help with the teaching.

As Messy Club is currently a small venture a donor can be told exactly where their money will be used and be sent photos and emails of their donation being used either by a group or specific family.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

As a parent with a child with additional needs I know how difficult it can be to fit in getting to group sessions when there are lots of hospital appointments and bouts of illness
