Project information

To complete the development of the site

The projects below are the last we should need to make the shelter complete to the extent that the donkeys will have everything they need for their comfort and health so that in future we only need to think of maintenance and the running costs of CDR's annual budgets over the next years.

That will vary according to donations received and volunteer availability.

  • Need

To help towards finalising the development of CDR, by creating more space for the donkeys; by keeping that space secure; providing cover for bulk purchase of hay and by creating a hard sand area for the donkeys.

It will allow donkeys to have more space to roam, give them more individual freedom, better winter food and reduce the need for a farrier (and his costs).

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To secure an adjacent piece of land by next Spring and prepare it for habitation by the donkeys.

» To clear the land to make it suitable for the donkeys, build a high security fence around it and provide a shelter for them on the land.
» To provide a smaller version of the field tent on this land for storage of winter hay which can be bought much cheaper in bulk in June when it is cut.
» To provide a hard sand arena. The sand acts like a natural emery board, reducing the need to trim their feet and is great for the donkeys to roll on.
» To concrete the short road from the car park to the main gates to allow wheelchair access. Destroyed by recent storm now an accident waiting to happen

By completing the land purchase by the Spring and the activities listed.

  • Impact

A more relaxed and stress-free life for the donkeys, a more manageable annual budget due to savings on hay purchases and less farrier treatment needed for hooves.
Continued visits by the public and tourists who provide much-needed donations from their visits. In particular this will include wheelchair users who until the road is repaired cannot access the site.

Lack of funds to pay for the activities.

Increased the public knowledge of the need.

Through the CDR and/or FCDR websites or individually if a sum is donated for a specific activity if requested.
