Our mission is to provide structured outdoor adventure and training to children and young adults (NEET's) from disadvantaged backgrounds as a medium whereby personal potential, teamwork and trust may develop as well as increasing their key skills, self esteem and general health and well being etc.

Liverpool and Greater Merseyside have a number of Wards that have high indices of multiple deprivation, any many of their young people feel disengaged with their communities. A lack of personal and technical skills presents them with barriers to their personal development and access to the world of work. This in turn leads to poor self- esteem, a lack of sense of achievement and an adverse effect on their general health and well being.
Our in-house training scheme enables young people and our volunteers to not only participate in healthy, adventurous activities such as hill walking, abseiling, orienteering etc. but also to work through a training programme that will develop both their interpersonal and technical skills, ultimately qualifying them to instruct activities themselves and enabling them to go on to secure employment within the Outdoor Industry and elsewhere.
Enable 10 young people to undertake our Urban Adventure training scheme
Activities» Hold consultations with schools, youth groups, Job Centre Plus and the Youth Offending Team to find candidates for the course.
» Enable candidates to attend the centre up to 5 days a week over a maximum 6 month period, until qualified..
Following our consultation with the organisations mentioned, success will be 10 young people working through and completing our in-house training scheme.
To put candidates through external NGB qualifications
Activities» First Aid training for all candidates
» Start candidates on either the Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award (dependent on prior experience)
» Hold an Archery Leader Instructor Award course at the centre
» Put all participants through a Basic Expedition Leader course (QCF level 3)
Success will be to run the courses mentioned and secure at least two, if not all, of the named National Governing Body awards for each candidate
The project will improve the vocational, leadership and interpersonal skills of the participants and will facilitate improvement in their self-esteem and sense of achievement. It will also broaden their experience of the world of work and provide them with nationally recognised qualifications that they can take forward. Success is measured by the completion of individual training plans, and candidate's pre and post course self assessment with regards to their self esteem and confidence levels.
There is a risk that the candidates do not see the course through to completion. In order to mitigate this risk, all participants will be assigned a training mentor, who will be available for them to discuss any issues/problems that may arise. In the event that a participant were to drop out of the course, we have developed strong links with several local organisations (M.Y.A, LCVS, Y.O.T etc.) to ensure that we are in a position to offer the place to alternative candidates
Supporters of this project will receive a monthly email reporting on the progress of all participants, and notification of any upcoming expeditions, training courses and/or NGB courses, alongside regular social media updates.

‘MYCT’ is an urban-based Outdoor Pursuits Education Centre Charitable Trust in South Liverpool. The City Council provides premises for the Centre together with 35 acres of public parkland, easily accessible to schools, youth groups and the young people of Merseyside and beyond. We are also ideally situated to access Snowdonia National Park, the Peak District and the Lake District, all less than two hours drive from the centre.
As well as participants undertaking our training scheme, the main beneficiaries of the Centre are young people aged between 8 and 25. Many of those who attend come from nearby Wards which have been identified as being within the 15% most deprived areas in the country according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation. We have forged strong links, and continue to work with, a number of like minded organisations in the city including Merseyside Police, This Girl Can, LCVS and Connexions to name a few.
Over the past 30 years MYCT has had over 75,000 young people attend the Centre and over 1000 young people have gone through our training, with close to 50% of these gaining employment. We are a hidden oasis in the heart of a major city, and we know we make a positive difference to young people’s lives. As testament to this, in both 2014 and 2015 MYCT received awards from the High Sheriff of Merseyside in recognition of ‘Great and valuable services to the community’.

Our CEO/ Manager - with 37 years of Senior Management experience in the Local Authority, Fred guides the day to day operations of the centre.
Activities Manager - he has been involved with MYCT for over 20 years, starting off as one of our trainee's he is now in charge of programme delivery.
Geoff started volunteering with us in 2006 and went on to instruct and manage at outdoor centres in the UK and Europe before returning to MYCT.
Roger Kirk Smith
Retired from 30 years in private business, he now oversees our accounts and financial operations.
