    Need

The Teens at the fringe of society who struggle with difficult family situations and are financially deprived need a creative outlet where they can shine in their talents. Musical Sounds aims to provide a safe environment for young people to unwind from their schoolwork and stressful lives and enjoy themselves with friends . They cannot afford regular leisure activities and we hope to provide these teenagers with a much needed outlet.

    Solution

The programme Musical Sounds has capacity for 200 teenagers aged 12-18 to join after school and out of hour sessions for free. They can opt in for an area of interest and work towards being part of a stage production. They will have leisure opportunities that will allow them to use their natural talents and improve their confidence. The stage production for 500 friends and family members will give them an chance to shine.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Teenagers will improve their confidence as a result of joining Musical Sounds

    Activities

» Different classes in dance, drama singing and music will run weekly on Sunday evenings.

We will ask young people to provide us with feedback to hear about their experience and to measure the change in their confidence levels. Sessional staff will also report changes

    Aim 2

Young people will develop an interest in music and sound and cultivate a natural talent.

    Activities

» Classes will be led by a professional to develop young peoples skills and talents.

We will measure how many young people joined courses of their interest and feel they used they natural talents. We will also see who continues studying or practising their talent.

    Aim 3

Young people will be happier and more self fulfilled reducing problems such as depression.

    Activities

» Courses will be light and fun led by caring sessional leaders and volunteers opening new vistas and changing lives of young people.

We will hold a focus group to measure these changes and ask the users to share this with us on questionnaires.

  • Impact

    Impact

We aim in the long term to encourage teenagers to live a happy, healthy life where young adults are emotionally stable and feel confident about themselves. We will remain in contact with young people so we can assess and evaluate the effectiveness of our work.

    Risk

There are numerous risks associated with this project. Working with 200 young people and 20 staff/volunteers requires a lot of organisation and logistical challenges may arise. We will therefore have a manager to run Musical Sounds.
There is a Health and Safety risk and Fire Risks and assessment have been carried out to identify these and deal with them.

    Reporting

We will update donors via email at 3 monthly intervals.
