We are fundraising to help support the redevelopment of the Children's Poetry Archive. The website www.childrenspoetryarchive.org will be redeveloped and content will be expanded to provide children with a fun and interactive learning environment where they can learn about and enjoy poetry.

Charity information: The Poetry Archive
Poetry was an oral art form before it became textual.Hearing a poet reading his or her work remains uniquely illuminating. It helps us to understand the work as well as helping us to enjoy it, we believe that children are not exposed to poetry as a listening experience and that this means there is less engagement with poetry as an art form.
The Children's Poetry Archive will focus on recording children's authors reading their own work, bringing to life the poems and allowing children who don't enjoy reading to engage with poetry. As well as recording contemporary poets reading their own work we intend to record classic work and make it available via the website as well as including fun learning exercises that children can use to widen their poetry experience.
To create the leading online poetry resource for children ages 3+.
Activities» Work with the leading academics to compile content to feature across the website.
» Work with technical advisers so as to develop a first class child friendly web user experience.
» Continually manage the project to develop and evolve the project across time, ensuring that the content and experience doesn't become static.
Success will be demonstrated by the user interaction with the website. Currently we receive around 17,000 visits a month to the website and we intend to increase this.
In the long term we hope that this will enhance the way that children view and experience poetry. In that we want children to engage with the website as a leisure activity as well as an educational one. We will gauge the success of this based upon website statistical analysis which will tell us how many people are visiting the site each month and how long they are spending exploring the resources.
There is a risk that copyright issues could impact our selection of key poets or poems to feature across the site, but through our parent project The Poetry Archive we have developed close working relationships with poets and publishers and have the necessary procedures in place to help us deal with any copyright issues.
Donors will be updated via newsletter on the progress of the project and given insight into the redevelopment as the project moves along.
