'socially speaking'

We will run social skills group sessions for 100 socially challenged children in 6 Hackney schools giving them the tools to integrate socially, improving their confidence, happiness and wellbeing and preventing their problems from escalating.

    Vulnerable socially challanged children are prone to isolation and at high risk of developing serious emotional/mental health disorders which can deteriorate to the point of requiring clinical intervention.Children particularly at risk are those:failing at school,academically&socially,affected by family dysfunction or breakup or those with genetic predisposition for mental-health problems.


    Empower socially challenged children with relevant tools to integrate effectively and communicate verbally with their peers thereby reducing social isolation, enhancing their school experience and leading onto better employability skills and increased confidence and self esteem.

    Aim 1

    Reduce social isolation


    » Train the school SENCOs (SEN coordinators) to identify children with social skills difficulties.

    success will be 75% of participants increasing verbal communication with their peers

    Aim 2

    Increase condidence and self esteem


    » Assess children using the SDQ toolkit to receive baseline indication to children's score across areas which will be worked upon in the sessions.

    success will be 85% of children actively participating in sessions

    Aim 3

    Enhance childrens school experience and increase their educational attainment.


    » Our Child Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist will train up8Social Skills Group Facilitators who will run group sessions in local schools.
    » Deliver weekly social skills sessions in 8 local schools over 12 months

    success will be 80% of participants acheiving higher academically as a result

    Aim 4

    Improve emotional/mental health difficulties


    » Monitor and report on progress of children and project on the whole.

    success will be 70% of participants increasing their score in their SDQ questionnare

  • Impact


    8 School SENCOs will be given the tools and framework to identify children at risk of mental health problems at an early stage.We will monitor the increased rate of socially challenged children receiving the help they require and ask school parents and children for feedback.


    Safeguarding risk-Children Ahead has a comprehensive safeguarding policy and procedures in place. All staff are DBS checked and safeguarding-trained. Our CPO is in charge of implementation.staff leave-in the highly unlikely event of any staff leaving the project we will employ other suitable candidates.


    We will email donors regularly to update them on the progress of the project.

    The project will be delivered in Hackeny which is ranked amongst the 10 most financially deprived areas in Englan (Borough statpack 2009) .


    this project will benefit 135 vulnerable socially challenged children.

    Why Us?

    Founded 5 years ago Children Ahead has developed excellent links with all local schools. We have reached out to over 250 children and a large percentage have reintegrated into their mainstream school setting successfully. . Seen by parents as the go-to organisation 'proactive in addressing needs of children before problems escalate’, this project has been requested by parents,professionals and schools who have identified the need.
