Winter retreat

We'd love to provide the orphans in our care with a chance to go on a midweek retreat where they'll be able to relax fully and enjoy nature, excitings trips, hikes. The girls will especially gain from this, being that they very rarely get such opportunities that the average child takes for granted.

  • Need

    Need

Although all their needs are provided for in every aspect (academically, socially, emotionally etc) in the best possible way, the disadvantaged children do not receive the extras that other children would naturally get. Being that they do not have family, this is a luxury they can only dream of.

    Solution

This retreat will take place in December 2015/January 2016. In the lead up to the retreat, the children will be involved in contributing to the retreat with their individual talents which will boost their confidence and excitement. The actual retreat will provide the orphans with a lot of fun thereby allowing them to recharge, relax and forget their past for a while. This will be something that they will cherish forever.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide the orphans with a real holiday experience.

    Activities

» Take these underprivileged children on a midwinter retreat.
» Involve the children with the planning of the retreat by contributing their particular talents.
» provide the orphans with a fun framework full of activities and outings.

Success will be seeing the children happy and relaxed on the retreat.

  • Impact

    Impact

The project will uplift the morale of the orphans providing them with lasting positive memories (most of which were negative before they came to our home).
We will demonstrate the success of this retreat by requesting that each child and teacher fill in an anonymous questionnaire rating their experience and how they feel the project helped the children.

    Risk

There is a chance that some children will not participate in the preparation and planning of the retreat. We will deal with this risk by having a therapist delve into the motive together with the child and remedy the situation in the best possible manner for the child.

    Reporting

We will send a newsletter with pictures and updates of the retreat to the donors both before and after the retreat takes place.
