''Nothing for me without me''
Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is almost entirely preventable. Each day, nearly 600 babies are born with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. m2m wants to ensure that a mother's voice - as the gateway to communities and as a change -agent is amplified to ensure an HIV-free generation is in reach by 2030
November 2015 - December 2016
Charity information: mothers2mothers (UK) Limited
m2m wants to raise awareness that mother-to-child-transmission of HIV is almost entirely preventable. Yet nearly 600 children a day are still being born with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. We want to keep the global spotlight on the solutions in our reach to ensure an HIV-free generation is a reality.
mothers2mothers trains and employs women living with HIV to work alongside health professionals and communities to provide life-saving support and education to other women to ensure a healthy start for themselves and their babies. In our first 15 years we have reached over 1.3 million women and we know with a replicable scaleable model, that we can reach more. To do this we must amplify the voice of the women we serve on a global scale to raise awareness and advocate for continued support.
Raise awareness among the general public and donor community that paediatric HIV is preventable.
Activities» Run a series of events throughout our 15th Anniversary year in 2016 in Europe, the US and Africa to keep the spotlight on an HIV-free generation
What success will look like
Success will be reflected in increased coverage of the issues in the UK and wider press and among the donor community. Equally success will be demonstrated in social media take up.
Ensure that the voice of a mother is at the heart of policies that effect her in 2015 and beyond
Activities» Develop, publish and dessiminate a policy paper written by Mentor Mothers to advocate for mothers at the heart of service delivery
What success will look like
Success will be a strong policy paper that captures the voice of a Mentor Mother and is widely disseminated among funders, press and donor community.
The long term changes will be increased awareness and funding for PMTCT and the global commitment to ensuring an AIDS-free generation is part of the SDG and policy agenda both globally and in country. We expect that the ethos of our campaign ''Nothing for me without me'' will help influence the way policies are written and delivered on a district, country and global level and that the voice of a Mentor Mother is a useful tool as part of the wider ''Global Citizens'' advocacy drive.
There is the risk that this is already a crowded space in terms of advocacy and policy around the SDG agenda.
We are harnessing our Mentor Mother workforce to provide an authentic, women-centred perspective - ''Nothing for me without me'' using 15 years experience of driving health change with women at the helm and heart of services. Our experience has seen district and national government take up of our model and is recognised as a game-changer both in empowerment and economic terms.
We will share and disseminate all evidence, papers and press coverage with donors and involve them wherever possible in events, social media, campaigns and activities around our 15th year. A full communication strategy and outcomes will be drawn up in support of planned activities.

m2m UK is a UK registered charity that raises funds and awareness for mothers2mothers, a South-African-led charity with a presence in 6 African countries - South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland and Uganda. The project activities will involve staff from our countries but will be delivered in the UK, US and South Africa primarily as an advocacy campaign aimed at the global donor community and general public.
Women living with HIV in Africa, mothers, families and communities living in least developed or low income countries in Africa where mothers2mothers has a presence. The project deals with some of the most marginalised and vulnerable women living every day with the stigma and discrimination still present around HIV/AIDS
Our model has been recognised as a replicable, scaleable solution in the Global Plan to Eliminate New HIV Infections Among Children by 2015 and Keeping their Mothers Alive. By employing women to lead change, we are ensuring that women are truly at the heart of service delivery and are well placed through our Mentor Mother workforce to hold leaders to account for their delivery of the post-MDG agenda and to advocate on a much wider scale moving forward.
