Ambition Giving

  • Need

For some young people, the odds are stacked against them, leaving them isolated and without the support that they so desperately need. The youth sector has seen cuts of £18 million since 2013.

    • Nearly 700,000 16-24 year olds are unemployed this Christmas.

    • Family relationships, low self-esteem and abuse are the most common reasons young people seek professional help.

    • Half of all lifetime cases of psychiatric disorders start by age 14 and three quarters by age 24.

At Ambition, we provide young people with the skills and experience they need for the chance of a better future.

We support 500,000 young people each year, through youth clubs and projects in 3,500 communities.

Your support means we can distribute grants to grass roots projects working with vulnerable young people in local areas - empowering young people and bringing communities together in the process.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide 1,600 disadvantaged young people with the skills and experience for a successful future.

» Provide up to 20 grants to grassroots community projects working with young people across the UK.
» Involve young people in the design and evaluation of these projects so their voices can be heard.

Success will be that young people are healthier, happier and have developed transferrable skills (leadership, team work) whilst adding value to their local community.

  • Impact

The project will provide much needed investment in grass roots projects for young people in disadvantaged and deprived communities. Because of your support, local opportunities will continue to be there when they are needed. Using our externally-accredited measurement tools, we will demonstrate the success of this project and its impact on young people. We will track young people's achievements and continue to work with the local projects, supporting their longer term sustainability.

Potential risks include more young people requesting our support than we are able to provide through this project. We would deal with this by having links with other local projects to which we are able to refer young people. Another risk could be that local projects are not able to deliver the activities. We have rigorous monitoring arrangements in place that complement our relationships to mitigate this risk.

Donors will receive a bi-monthly newsletter from Ambition which will include details of the community projects and case studies of the young people who have benefited. We will also send an end of project report summarising the difference your donation has made.

  • Background

Ambition is a national charity based in Vauxhall; providing high quality support to young people across the UK. Our location is ideal for our advocacy work and means we are close to other national charities. Our project will be delivered in the most disadvantaged and deprived communities in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ambition works with over half a million young people each year through our support of local youth organisations. Ambition Giving has already been inundated with applications from grassroots projects, all of whom have great youth-led ideas which we can't support as we don't have enough funds. Young people aged under 24 in the most deprived areas of the UK will benefit from this project.

Your support helped when I was having trouble at school. I'm now a member of Hackney's U15's basketball team and I train every day.
