Project information

Life. The most precious gift.

Gift of Life Foundation aspires to save lives of children who suffer cancer. Ordinary families in Russia and Former Soviet Union do not have access to adequate cancer treatment which is only available in developed countries. We aim to raise money to help as many children as possible to enjoy life!

  • Need

Vital medicine for children suffering lymphoblastic leukaemia in Russia is not available. 10% of patients develop an allergy to chemotherapy used in Russia and must be treated with Erwinase, which is manufactured in the UK. Erwinase is available as a standard in developed countries with modern medical care. Lack of this medicine turns curable types of cancer into terminal disease. Our goal is to guarantee access to proper treatment for every child who needs it.

Gift of Life will assist with purchase of Erwinase. Like most requirements for the treatment of cancer, Erwinase is expensive. £20,000 is the price of one course for treatment of uncomplicated case. The Big Give initiative will enable us to save the life of one child as a part of wide ongoing campaign (50 children received our help since 2011).

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Save lives of children who suffer lymphoblastic leukaemia

» Provide children with vital medicine Erwinase

Success will be to provide children with life-saving medication on time and gift them chance to live, grow and thrive. The success would be to save life of a child.

  • Impact

The project will give sick children chance to live. The project will give a chance to save lives by very simple means - money to buy a vital medicine.

There is a risk that medicine can be not effective. Where chemotherapy has not been successful, the preferred next stage of treatment involves a bone marrow transplant. Gift of life will assist with this treatment by raising funds on different project

Funders of this project will receive an email report detailing how many packs of Erwinase have been bought and who received the necessary treatment along with periodic updates on treatment results.

£20,000 Erwinase up to 7 packs of Erwinase
  • Background

In western countries, with the most advanced medicine, the survival rate in childhood cancer is up to 90%. In Russia, although it has risen from 50% in the recent years, it is still under 70% due to lack of vital medication, late diagnostics and inadequate initial therapy.

Children who suffer from lymphoblastic leukaemia and develop an allergy to conventional chemotherapy will have an opportunity to continue medical treatment with alternative medicine Erwinase and will survive.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Starting from 2011 we have provided 50 children with 390 packs of Erwinase. It is over 35% of the annual need for the whole of Russia. We work together with Russian charity Podari Zhizn (Gift Life) which provides practical care to children and young adults whose families cannot afford treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
