25% of hackneys population are under 20 years old and they are more diverse than the rest of the population. Hackneys schools are highly diverse in terms of ethnic and income backgrounds of pupils. This is leading to community cohesion problems across the borough which has been shown by The Learning Trust to contribute to attainments gaps. Extra ciricular activities have been proven to expose young people and families to wider views, raising aspirations and easing inter-generational tensions.
By targeting children and families through our extensive network of School contacts and bringing them together to play in a safe and neutral environment. UBG will facilitate game playing sessions celebrating the diverse backgrounds of the participants to nurture healthy social, emotional and psychological connections. By running a series of workshops the project will create a network of children and families who are more engaged with each other, their school and the wider community.
