Shine out on Saturdays
A performing arts club for children with learning disabilities and/or autism, this project provides a unique leisure opportunity for disadvantaged children living in Sheffield and respite for family carers
This project tackles the problem of social exclusion of children with learning disabilities. It also tackles low self-esteem and low self-confidence which children with learning disabilities often have, due to their difficulties in communication.
The project empowers children with learning disabilities by providing them with the chance to take part in a mainstream activity in a safe and nurturing environment. Given the opportunity to express themselves through drama, music and dance they flourish and develop their social and communication skills. They can become more confident, more independent and also make friends with like-minded people.
To provide a top quality activity for children with learning disabilities which will be challenging.
Activities» There will be intensive support from dual qualified staff and volunteers to ensure that the children receive a high level of support.
We will continually monitor the individual progress of each child and ensure their needs and aims are being met by the club.
The long term changes are the progress of each child, the increase in their self-confidence and improvement in their communication skills. This may be difficult to quantify but is vitally important to the children and their parents! We will demonstrate their progress through public performances of plays they will write and perform themselves.
Funding! This project will be entirely funded by charitable donation so relies upon us being able to source funding to secure the future of the project.
