The Tunza Centre, St Helens
We run a successful social enterprise based in St Helens - The Tunza Centre. We offer various projects & activities which engage vulnerable young people & their families. We are looking to develop a new outdoor area to create some extra space to run projects from during 2016 - a garden & play zone.
January 2016 - December 2016
Charity information: Tunza's Pride
A lack of opportunities for families to spend quality time together at low cost to the families. Our current portfolio of activities are very popular and this new development would create further opportunities for families to engage in worthwhile activities adults and children can take part in based within a caring environment.
Our experience in delivering projects and running activities have helped tens of families since we opened our centre in January 2014. We need the extra space to provide even more activities. This project would offer us the space to create new projects in an outdoor environment & mean we can become even more diverse in our approach. Families are keen to take part in new activities linked to The Tunza Centre & creating an outdoor zone would enhance the volunteering opportunities we currently offer
To offer all family members new volunteering and mentoring opportunities based at The Tunza Centre
Activities» To create an outdoor garden & play zone from which we can run regular activities & projects enhancing well-being for children, young people & parents
What success will look like
By recruiting families to oversee the maintenance of the garden area and developing a new mentoring programme to support newly recruited families.
We will be able to provide a new play zone located within a highly populated part of the town. We will also develop a self-sufficient garden area and be able to grow our own produce to use within The Tunza Centre. We will also be able to sell home grown produce at low cost to local families. Success will be judged on the time families spend taking part on the project and the number of families benefiting from spending time in the play zone.
Potential of vandalism - we have already installed CCTV cameras on site which overlook the designated area for development and plan to erect a high security fence with a securely locked gate access which is only available when families are taking part in projects or when The Tunza Centre is open to the public.
Imagery sent electronically of activity work taking place. Offering donors the chance to visit the site at various development stages. Feedback from participants benefiting from the new development.

St Helens in Merseyside. We are based in the West Park Ward of the town but accessible to all parts of the town and surrounding areas
All family members, other community groups and charities, current users of The Tunza Centre and potentially thousands of local people
We are already running a successful social enterprise and offer many opportunities but lack of space is becoming an issue. With extra space we can confidently run even more activities. We also have suitable volunteers ready to help run and manage this new project. Our ethic of caring for others is always at the front of everything we do and offer.
