Supporting Future Academics

  • Need

This project aims to be a bridge between academics and students in A level and undergraduate students. The project aims to inspire, motive and help future academics by linking them a role models in their fields and providing valuable information. We will encourage students for post-graduate education through stimulating workshops and seminars and informal meetings with PhD students in their fields.
With the right inspiration and aim, we also want to motivate them to be more successful.

We will arrange formal and informal meetings with successful academics and students. Thus, we will organise 20 seminars/workshops and several informal gatherings for them, such as coffee meetings. Academics from different disciplines will explain their passion along with their professions and the innovations in their fields. Students will gain an in-depth understanding and knowledge about the professions presented as well as motivation in order to carry on their studies for further education.

    Aim 3

Providing a source of motivation for students to become more successful in their schools.

» By fulfilling their lack of professional support, information, advice and guidance through formal and informal gatherings.

    What success will look like

The project coordinator will visit the students' schools regularly to see their progress by having conversations with their teachers, whose' feedback will be quite valuable.

  • Impact

We would like to provide future academics the opportunity to network with academics in their area of interest so as to provide them with a source of motivation to go into higher education. If students have information about different professions they can make better educational choices and understand the importance of interdisciplinary work. Providing them with the opportunity to meet role models may make them much more successful at school and lead to their securing a place in higher education

We would like to reach those students who are much more in need of information, guidance, and motivation regarding higher education than others. The workshops should consist of students who have already shown signs of brilliance and need further guidance and support for their higher education choices, as well as those who are not sure what to do. The mixed workshop groups will enable students to exchange information amongst themselves.

The donors will be sent website updates as soon as the workshops or informal gatherings and trips are organised and uploaded to the webpage. They will also be invited to participate in the workshops if they are interested.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

London Centre for Social Studies (LCSS), with the success of the Raising Expectations project receiving over £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund, we have carried out a mentoring project for disadvantaged youth in low socio-economic areas of London to help them understand the process of higher education and encourage their understanding of attaining a degree. The youth we were in contact with developed a mentorship programme with our volunteers and we helped establish their needs.
