Improved Quaratine Facilities

To rescue more horses, ponies and donkeys by increasing the number of quarantine stables at the sanctuary. We currently have only one rescue stable - increasing this to 3 would enable us to rescue 3 times more animals.

  • Need

All equines must be quarantined for at least three weeks on arrival at the sanctuary to avoid cross-infection of any of our existing animals if the new ones are carrying any disease. We currently only have one quarantine stable which is less than ideally located next to the main yard. This means we can only rescue one animal every three weeks.

Building a separate quarantine yard with 3 stables will enable us to rescue 3 animals at any time, trebling the number of equines we can take in. Moving the location would also reduce the risk to our existing animals.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Rescue up to 3 times as many horses, ponies and donkeys by improving our quarantine facilities.

» Build a separate new quarantine yard and stables.

Increased numbers of animals rescued (up to 3 times as many).

    Aim 2

Improve the bio-security of the sanctuary and reduce cross-contamination risk for existing animals.

» Build a separate new quarantine yard and stables.

No incidence of cross-contamination of existing animals.

  • Impact

The ability to rescue more animals is a long-term change and will enable many more to be saved over the coming years than if we did not improve these facilities.

    1. Obtaining sufficient funding - the project will be implemented in agreed stages. Hopefully the initial funding drive will cover the full amount of the project, but if not then the first phase will be started whilst fundraising for the remainder. Each stage will have agreed and useable outcomes, ensuring each phase is useful in itself.
    2. Obtaining Planning Permission - the development will replace existing, very tatty, buildings, giving a good reason for planning agreement.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Hope Pastures is the only horse rescue charity in the local area. We have over 40 years of rescue experience and have grown the number of cases we have rescued from just 16 in 2004 to over 100 in 2014. There is a national equine crisis, with stray and abandonned animals thorughout the Yorkshire region and Hope Pastures is ideally located to help improve this situation.
