Poetry School at StAnza 2016
The annual StAnza festival includes a range of all-day and half-day poetry workshops and a masterclass all with leading poets. To ensure that these events continue to be modestly priced and affordable to everyone who wants to take part, we need to secure support with the costs.
August 2015 - March 2016
StAnza, Scotland's International Poetry Festival
There is a demand for poetry writing and performance workshops and for a masterclass from leading poets.
Our workshops and masterclass give the opportunity of participating in sessions led by leading poets and enable those attending to enhance their skills in writing, sharing and understanding poetry.
To continue to meet the demand for modestly priced workshops and masterclasses.
Activities» To be able once again to offer modestly priced half-day and all-day workshops and a masterclass at our 2016 festival.
By delivering the planned workshops and masterclass.
Our workshops and masterclass will allow people regardless of their financial means to develop and share their own poetry.
These events are very expensive to deliver and without sufficient funding, we may either have to increase the ticket prices making their beyond the reach of people of modest means.
We will ask people attending the events to complete questionnaires commenting on how valuable the events have been to them.

Most of our workshops and the masterclass take place in St Andrews during the festival but the two all-day workshops on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the festival week may take place in atmospheric venues elsewhere in Fife. For several years they took place at Balmungo, a mansion house then owned by the Barns-Graham Trust which showcased the work of artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, and in 2015 they took place in two local National Trust of Scotland venues, Kellie Castle and Hill of Tarvit.
People who wish to improve their skills at writing and sharing their poetry, and also their understanding of poetry, but who may not have the time or means to undertake a creative writing course at college or university.
For eighteen years we have been developing our programme of workshops and masterclasses and making them widely available through our commitment to keeping our ticket prices very modest. Year after year we invite leading poets to deliver workshops and a masterclass which are very popular, often selling-out quickly and which generate very enthusiastic feedback from those attending, many of whom have gone on to publishing success.
