Everyone can build a livelihood

Common Cause connects people living below the poverty line in the UK with the resources they need to build their own livelihoods. By giving beneficiaries a hand up and connecting them directly with supporters, they can build businesses on their own terms and achieve financial independence.

  • Need

    Need

Poverty is one of the biggest problems facing the UK, with one in three households experiencing poverty for at least one year between 2001 and 2014. For many, escaping this trap and building a livelihood seems impossible.

    Solution

Common Cause connects people living below the poverty line who are trying to build their own livelihoods with the resources to help them do so. Through a crowdfunding platform, beneficiaries can access funding, advice and equipment to help them get their businesses off the ground. As a result, beneficiaries can work on their own terms and set up their projects to fit around their personal lives.

  • Impact

    Impact

This project will result in fewer people living below the poverty line. Once beneficiaries have built their own livelihoods they will be able to support themselves financially and will therefore be less reliant on the state for financial support. Success will be measured through carrying out qualitative and quantitative research with beneficiaries to assess whether they have received the support they need to get their businesses off the ground.

    Risk

There is a risk that 100 potential beneficiaries could not advertise on our website. We will manage this risk by working closely with referral partners to encourage people to register.

    Reporting

We will report to donors though regular email updates. These will show the progress beneficiaries are making towards their goals. The website will show the progress of each beneficiary on their dedicated project page. Our annual report will include details of the number of beneficiaries supported.
