Need
Need
For Bobbi Bear to impact and expand we need to increase the training programmes for Child Safety Officers and recruit from communities in South Africa. For further impact we need to recruit and train for the School Outreach Programme HIV Edu Toy and set up more community based meetings and support groups for victims of child sexual abuse and recreate the successful Tree Project with other community leaders in South Africa.
Solution
As part of Bobbi bears expansion the vision is to have at least 2 Child Safety Officers in every community in South Africa who are equipped to intervene and assist the criminal justice system to safeguard the best interest of any child who is a victim of sexual abuse. CSO’s become the ears & eyes in the community, thereby alerting the authorities in the area or Bobbi Bear to abuse and often preventing the abuse.

Aims
Aim 1
Schedule a Community Child Safety Officer Training Programme in 2016
Activities
» An intensive 10 day need-based training followed by 3 month weekly mentorship programme
What success will look like
Successful appointment of Child Safety Officers into extended communities.
-
Impact
Impact
CSO’s become the ears & eyes in the community, thereby alerting the authorities in the area or Bobbi Bear to abuse and often preventing the abuse. Statistically reporting of child sexual abuse goes up as does the conviction rate when a child safety officer is working within the community.
Risk
Although all who enrol on the Child Safety Officer programme are thoroughly screened there is always a risk that one or two of the people are not able to fully complete the programme due to the emotional nature of the work.
Reporting
Monitoring and evaluation strategies are essential components to the expansion of Bobbi Bear and are crucial to its success. We will call on the staff at Bobbi Bear and others involved in the development project to support a monitoring and evaluation process and provide reports.
