Nepal Earthquake Appeal
CARE has been working in Nepal since 1978 and our team was there when the earthquake struck. Your gift could give families in Nepal emergency shelter, food and safe water. Up to 80% of homes in some rural areas have collapsed - with your support we will reach families in the worst hit communities.
Charity information: CARE International UK
Families have had their homes destroyed and are in desperate need of shelter and basic necessities. Over 5,000 people are confirmed dead and over 50,000 people are injured. The earthquake affected around 8 million people.
Our immediate focus is to support families with emergency shelter and clean drinking water. We also aim to provide food packages.
CARE International is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

After the inital first phase of response to this disaster, we will continue to assist the recovery from this disaster and to help communities to become more resilient to future disasters.
There is a risk of aftershocks (there have already been several). People have been trying to remain outside buildings during the aftermath.
Some roads are blocked, particularly due to landslides caused by the tremors. We will be coordinating with a local organisation to remove rubble and debris to enable better access to families in need.
We will update supporters in our bi-annual newsletter and keep them updated via email.

CARE has worked with communities in Nepal since 1978 and we supported families after the fatal landslide in 2014.
Since 2000, we have worked in Nepal to address the underlying causes of poverty, conflict and social injustice. These include discrimination, poor governance and vulnerability. We place emphasis on involving women, Dalits and other poor, vulnerable and socially excluded groups in local development processes, and advocate for marginalised people to have access to basic services.
We will provide emergency assistance to the families who have been hardest hit by this earthquake.
CARE has worked with communities in Nepal since 1978 and we supported families after the fatal landslide in 2014. We have an office in the capital, Kathmandu, and have local staff who are familiar with the area and the culture.
