Talented Athletes Yorkshire & Humberside
We help the next generation of sporting stars. We provide support to young people who want to make their career in sport. Our help is targeted at the best sporting talent at a time when they rely on their families for support. Without our help they could have to give up their sport.
Charity information: SportsAid Yorkshire And Humberside
There is a lack of support for young talented athletes as they cannot access funding through the lottery which is reserved for elite athletes. On average a young person spends £6000 a year on their sport. This is a huge drain on the family who are often the only source of support. This can cause talented young people to have to give up their sport altogether.
We provide small scale support for young athletes through SportsAid Awards. These help young athletes with the costs of competing, coaching, travel and equipment costs.
To help young able bodied and disabled athletes in Yorkshire to achieve their potential.

The project will bring about greater sporting success. We monitor the progress of our athletes and their achievements to show the level of our success. The work also provides role models and our athletes encourage healthy lifestyles in their peers.
The main risk is the young people giving up their sport. We work with the governing bodies of 75 sports to make sure that we are supporting the right athlete at the right time and that those we support have the greatest chance of success.
Our donors are matched to an athlete who they choose to support for a given period. We report on the progress of supported athletes through updates and progress reports from the individual.

West Yorkshire is a diverse area and we have identified it as a hot bed for young athletes with more young people coming from this area then anywhere in the country other than London. Youngsters in the area have to travel to compete and often have to travel further to train. We want to support as many youngsters from diverse backgrounds to be able to take part in sport to the highest level possible.
Young people will benefit from this project. They will generally be aged between 12-21 years. This can be older if they are disabled athletes as they have often developed a disability later in life and therefore have come to their sport later in life.
We are the only charity that works with the national governing bodies of sport to target our support to the right athlete at the right time. This helps us to be incredibly successful. In Yorkshire, we have supported a number of athletes who have gone on to enjoy national and international success. This includes supporting the likes of Jess Ennis, Luke Campbell and Sarah Stevenson at the start of their careers.
