  • Need

There are only four primary schools in the sub county which service a population that was 18,782 in 2008. It is estimated that in Bukasakya sub-county there are now 30,000 people.
In line with national demographics (0-14 years are 48.9% of total population) the number of children in the sub-county is 14,670.
Meaning that the primary school in Musoto has class sizes of approx. 200 and attn. of teachers to individual children is almost absent.

The Oasis Academy Musoto will provide an extra primary school in the area for up to 500 children. The school will ensure there is a safe space to learn and provide a nutritional meal at lunch time.
Lower class room sizes of 35 will allow teachers to personalise educational care to individual children. Which in turn will fully engage the children in school life.
Provided lunch time meals will keep energy levels up while helping students keep an interest in studies.

  • Aims

To increase the local exam pass/success rate

» Offer personalised tuition plans for those that need it
    » Keep classroom sizes low

Of the total number of children attending the school success will be to see 50% of them sitting exams and 25% of them passing.

    Aim 2

    Reduce school drop out rate

» Engage with and offer support to children's families
» Provide safe and sanitary conditions for both genders.

Success will be seeing 75% rate of ongoing attendance for a period of no less than 3 years.

  • Impact

This project will create a generation of children educated in basic numeracy, literacy, health & sanitation and their local environment which they will take back to their communities.
Children will pass these learnings on to their community elders. They will also be equipped to seek or create a source of income for years to come shifting the level of reliance in years to come.

Oasis Musoto remains firmly rooted in Uganda and will monitor things like socio economics and HIV rates.
