Project information

Connect young people with their global community

We are raising money to enable us to contribute towards the travel costs that young volunteers incur when they undertake community service projects abroad.

This is an ongoing appeal

  • Need

    Need

There are many young people from Great Britain and Ireland keen to travel abroad to undertake community service projects in the developing world.

Income should not be a barrier to helping others.

We want to play our part in reducing the financial burden on these volunteers, to make it easier for them to contribute to community service projects around the world.

    Solution

More donations to the Round Table Trust will enable us to commit more money to underwrite more of the travel costs of more volunteers going to more places to undertake more valuable service projects which will help more vulnerable people in more deprived communities.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To support the ever-growing number of volunteers who apply to the Trust for a Travel Award each year

    Activities

» Donations from individuals, organisations and businesses.
» Donations from constituent member clubs of the Round Table Family - Round Table, Ladies Circle, 41 Club & Tangent.

Success is demonstrated by an increase in the overall value of the awards granted in a given year.

  • Impact

    Impact

Our Travel Awards enable young people to get connected with their global community.

These volunteers work on overseas service projects which directly benefit local people and communities in some of the most deprived parts of the world. Our fundraising will help get them there so they can make a difference.

Afterwards these young volunteers return inspired and with a new perspective, ready to get involved in their own community.

We share their experiences to encourage others to do the same.

    Risk

We receive applications for Travel Awards every week and we process them on a monthly basis.

What could affect our success is insufficient income for the Trust to be able to make as many awards as we would like, or to the value we would like.

We manage our finances prudently and never commit to spending more than is available.

    Reporting

Successful applicants commit to providing the Trust with a report on their trip within 6 weeks of their return.

We share these stories with our public via our website and social media. Donors can also ask for specific updates about particular applicants/projects.

  • Background

    Location

Our volunteers come from all over Great Britain and Ireland, and represent very diverse backgrounds. They embark on community services all over the world, typically in developing countries (but never in the UK).

    Beneficiaries

    1) The people who benefit are the members of the communities in which the service projects are undertaken; these may be people who are sick, vulnerable, disadvantaged or dispossessed.

    2) The volunteers themselves also benefit by having their horizons expanded and their lives enriched.

    3) The volunteers' home communities will also ultimately benefit from what these young people have experienced, and from what they will be able to offer locally in the future.
