Project information

Grundy Discovery Centre

Our idea is to transform an old bowling pavilion into a visitor centre for all park visitors to use. It could be used as a local cafe for park visitors. It could also be used as a discovery centre for local school children, who may visit the park to find out more about the wildlife.

  • Need

Many visitors complain that there is nowhere to have refreshments on the park. Also local youths would like somewhere they could meet to chat with their friends.

If we could open up the Pavilion we could run a small cafe for refreshments at peak times on the park. Also when other sports sessions are running we could open the building up for youths to meet in this building.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To provide a community building for everyone to use.

» Open up the building at peak times and allow other groups to use the building for meetings. Provide a suitable meeting point for everyone to use.

    What success will look like

Make the building open as often as possible for everyone to use and publicize the fact it is back in use. Receiving hundreds of visitors each week to use the building.

    Aim 2

    Stop the building being vandalised.

» By having the building open for local youngsters this would hopefully discourage them from vandalizing the building.

    What success will look like

Involving the local schools and their children/students in the redevelopment of the building.

  • Impact

It would provide a presence on the park for most of the week, which in turn would deter visitors from misbehaving on the park. We would keep in close contact with local schools about projects being run from the centre such as wildlife projects.

Vandalism could be one of the greatest risks but we work closely with the local police and would continue to keep them involved in anything we do. The building could provide a 'Hub' for them to visit when they do their 'rounds' on the park.

By supplying regular newsletters, inviting Donors to visit the new developed building. Sending copies of any publicity the project would receive.
