  • Need

A problem with older teenagers vandalizing the area and making a local nuisance of themselves. Also Blackpool is known for adults having a general health problem and this would encourage youngsters and their families to have a healthy outlook.

By engaging the local youngsters in exercise it will give them something to do whether they are alone or working together in groups creating a competitive environment.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We will engage with the local community to ask what type of equipment they want..

» Holding public consultations at local forum meetings and our own open meetings to get their views and choices.

    What success will look like

Return to local meetings to show what has been chosen and will be installed.

    Aim 2

Get the local children interested in their own personal fitness. Using the new area regularly.

    » Running introductory football sessions.

    What success will look like

Get publicity through the local papers about the new football equipment and the way it is being used.

    Aim 3

Give the park a new healthy outlook for all to achieve.

» We will publicize the new equipment and sesions to be run.

    What success will look like

Publicly advertise that the equipment is there for all to use.

  • Impact

Make the local community feel we are listening to them. In return they will hopefully become involved in other projects that we run at the park. We would be able to show how many people are involved in future projects.

Local residents may object to the park being used for this purpose. We have canvassed the area widely to seek their approval.

Through regular newsletters and sending any publicity that we gain. We will invite them to visit the park and see the improvements made.

  • Background

The area is on Highfield Road Park, a small 'pocket' park located in the south shore area of Blackpool. It is tucked away in a busy area which many local people visit for recreation with their families.

Blackpool has areas of deprivation and although our area is not identified as such there are many local families who cannot afford to go to local gyms but enjoy visiting the park for recreation. Children would also get a chance to interact with adults in the area which would benefit the whole community.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We have an eight year history of making improvements on the local park for the benefit of all visitors. We have listened to what people want and are regularly asked what our next project will be. We also work closely with the local schools and police to find out what would work best on the park.
