Building a Better Met

The Met is based in Derby Hall, a Grade 2 listed building situated in the heart of Bury.

Since the start of 2016, we have been raising money to refurbish the building which is due to reopen in November. Help us to make the raise the final funds we need to achieve the best building possible.

  • Need

The current layout of the venue derives from adaptation and piecemeal development of the building whose principal form originates from 1850. It does not meet the needs of the growing audiences now attending events, and
servicing events is difficult and inefficient.

We are now in the final stages of fund-raising for the campaign which will go towards finalising the building.

Achieving the full project budget will enable us to enhance public facilities and access, develop and conserve the building exterior, provide new heating and lighting systems, make better use of space, increase audience capacity and provide improved experience for artists and audiences.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Enhance public facilities and access

» Through developing and conserving the exterior, making better use of space and providing an improved customer experience

    Success will be increased audiences.

    Aim 2

Reduce maintenance & utility costs, securing
    financial and environmental sustainability

» through replacement of heating and lighting systems and using more efficient building materials.

Success will be reducing running costs.

    Aim 3

    Improved catering facilities

» Through development and linking the venue to its restaurant

    Increased footfall in the restaurant.

    Aim 4

    Improve technical and backstage facilities

» Reducing turnaround time between events and allowing a wider range of programming

Reducing turnaround time between acts and broadening our range of acts.

    Aim 5

    Increase audiences and general capacity

» Through the general redevelopment and supporting local businesses.

Increasing capacity, selling more seats for events.

  • Impact

The much needed development of the building will enable The Met to continue to grow, to welcome increased audiences and bring the arts to a wider range of people in the local community, nationally and internationally.

Significant funding is already secured for the capital project through Arts council England's capital scheme and through other grants. The risk would be to fail to attract the last 5% funding needed. A structured funding plan is in place already to ensure we achieve our aims.

    Donors will receive email updates.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

The Met is part of a growing cultural offer in Bury. Large scale events organised by The Met such as the Ramsbottom and Homegrown festivals help to make Bury a great place to live and increase visitors to the area. Investment in the building will enable The Met to increase access to the arts for the local community and attract a national and international audience.
